Folixor® sublingual or "under-the-tongue" tablets contain 1 mg of Folinic Acid and are designed for slow, buccal absorption. They contain adjuvants that further enhance bioavailability and ensure effectiveness. These adjuvants are: Vitamin B12, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C and the amino acid L-Leucine. Higher potency strengths (5 and 10 mg) are also available. 

Buccal absorption ensures maximum bioavailability. Folic acid is absorbed by the blood capillaries of the mouth where it is then deposited directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the stomach. Folic acid taken orally and then swallowed is often quickly destroyed by digestive acids of the stomach leaving little for the body to utilize.
 

Folinic Acid is 5-formyl-tetrahydrofolate, a "body ready" form of folic acid. This means that folinic acid is more easily processed by the body because the body can turn it into an active or usable form of folate. 5-methyl-tetrahydrofolate is another form of body-ready folic acid that offers good bioavailability but one recent study has shown that this more expensive version works just as well as folic acid in most cases*.
